Citability

Citability indicates how well an AI system can understand and quote individual sections of a website as self-contained answers. At 25%, it has the highest weight in the GEO score.

What is assessed?

The page is split into content blocks based on its headings. Blocks with fewer than 20 words are not assessed. Each remaining block can receive up to 100 points:

  • Answer quality, up to 30 points: direct definitions, an early key statement, clear sentences and sourced claims
  • Self-containment, up to 25 points: sufficient context, few ambiguous pronouns and clear named entities
  • Structure, up to 20 points: readable sentence lengths, lists, steps and paragraphs
  • Concrete facts, up to 15 points: numbers, percentages, dates and named sources
  • Unique signals, up to 10 points: original analysis, case studies and specific methods

The page score is the average across all assessed blocks. A finding is created when this average is below 50.

Optimal section length

A content block between 134 and 167 words receives the highest length bonus. This is not a strict requirement and is only one part of the score. Shorter or longer sections can still perform well when they are specific, self-contained and clearly structured.

How to improve the score

  1. Answer the question or topic in the first sentence.
  2. Write sections that remain understandable without the preceding text.
  3. Add verifiable numbers, sources or concrete examples.
  4. Use descriptive headings, including questions where appropriate.
  5. Split very long sections into clearly focused content blocks.

In a finding, Section to revise identifies the heading of the lowest-scoring content block. It is not a ready-made correction, but indicates where revision should begin.
